Atwatia is not an NPP stronghold, It’s a swing seat & it’s not like NDC has gone to Bantama to win – NPP man, Hon Bediako defends their loss

Following the shocking outcome of the Akwatia by-election, in which the National Democratic Congress (NDC) snatched victory from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former Jaman South Municipal Chief Executive and NPP stalwart, Hon. Andrew Bediako, has downplayed the significance of the loss, describing Akwatia as a swing constituency, not a stronghold of the NPP.

Speaking on Kessben TV’s political talk show Adwenkyerɛ, Hon. Bediako cautioned party members and political commentators against interpreting the results as an indication of the NPP losing grip in its strongholds.

“Akwatia is not an NPP stronghold. It’s a swing seat. It’s not like NDC has gone to Bantama to win,” he said, drawing a sharp contrast between traditionally secure NPP constituencies and more competitive ones like Akwatia.

The by-election, held yesterday, ended with the NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo defeating the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu in what many political analysts are calling an upset.

NDC (Bernard Bediako Baidoo): 18,199 votes and NPP (Solomon Asumadu): 15,235 votes

The result has triggered celebrations within the NDC and introspection within the NPP, especially given the historical performance of the party in the Eastern Region.
