I will not advise Torkorno to go to court over her removal as Chief Justice, People have their vested interest – Renowned Lawyer, Dominic Brenya

Renowned Ghanaian legal practitioner, Lawyer Dominic Brenya, has waded into the ongoing controversy surrounding the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM, Brenya stated unequivocally that he would not advise Justice Torkornoo to challenge her removal in court, citing deeply entrenched vested interests within the legal and political landscape.

“I will not advise Torkorno to go to court over her removal as Chief Justice. People have their vested interest,” Brenya said, emphasizing that the current environment surrounding the judiciary is fraught with political undercurrents that could complicate or even undermine any legal challenge.

.While some civil society groups and legal commentators have called for a judicial review of the decision, others have warned that the matter could further polarize the judiciary.

According to Brenya, though Justice Torkornoo may have legitimate grounds to seek redress, the reality of how such high-stakes legal battles play out in Ghana’s system makes court action an unwise path. He noted It’s not always about the law. Sometimes, it’s about the power dynamics behind the scenes.
