Economic and Technological Renewal in Africa: A Historic Opportunity for Strategic Cooperation
By Samuel Shay, Economic Advisor to the Abraham Accords Peace Treaty

Over the past eighteen months, Africa has witnessed a profound shift in its geopolitical landscape. Many governments across the continent have begun distancing themselves from foreign powers China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom whose decades of influence often failed to deliver genuine development. Instead of building sustainable infrastructure in education, healthcare, agriculture, water, and energy, these powers largely extracted resources for their own gain, leaving African nations without the foundations needed for long-term growth.
Against this backdrop, President Donald J. Trump’s call for strategic partnerships with African nations marks a historic opportunity. His vision extends a genuine hand of cooperation one that empowers African states to rebuild on their own terms, free from the dictates and dependencies of external actors.
The guiding principle is straightforward yet transformative: African nations can leverage their natural resources not as commodities siphoned abroad, but as assets to generate domestic wealth. This wealth can, in turn, be reinvested into national priorities funding schools, hospitals, agricultural innovation, clean water systems, and modern energy infrastructure. Such reinvestment lays the groundwork for true sovereignty, resilience, and sustainable development.
At the heart of this vision lies the promise of American-Israeli technological collaboration. The United States and Israel bring proven expertise in critical areas from water desalination and advanced agriculture to renewable energy and digital health infrastructure. By combining these strengths with Africa’s resource potential, we can create a development model rooted in innovation, empowerment, and long-term prosperity.
The next step must be immediate and practical. High – level meetings should be initiated between U.S. officials and African presidents who are eager to embrace this vision. These dialogues can shape joint strategies that translate opportunity into action laying the foundation for an African renaissance built on partnership, technology, and economic strength.
Today, more than ever, the world stands at a turning point. Africa can move from being a target of exploitation to becoming a beacon of renewal and progress. This is not just an opportunity for Africa it is an opportunity for the United States, Israel, and the global community to support a future defined by stability, growth, and shared prosperity.
