There has never been rivalry between me and Lord Kenya, We’ve been brothers since day one – Okyeame Kwame

Celebrated Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has finally addressed the long-standing perception of a rivalry between himself and fellow Hiplife pioneer, Lord Kenya.
According to the award-winning rapper, any notion of conflict between the two was never rooted in reality but rather shaped by fan interpretations and industry narratives.
“There has never been rivalry between me and Lord Kenya,” Okyeame Kwame said. “We’ve been brothers since day one. It was our fans who pitched us against each other.” Okyeame Kwame said in an interview with Mr Bonez on Kessben TV.
The statement comes as a refreshing revelation in a music industry often dominated by tales of artist feuds and competitive showdowns. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Okyeame Kwame and Lord Kenya were two of the most influential figures in Ghana’s Hiplife movement.
Their lyrical prowess, charismatic stage presence, and back-to-back hits naturally sparked debates among fans about who reigned supreme. However, Okyeame Kwame insists that while friendly competition may have existed, it never escalated into personal animosity.
Lord Kenya, who has since transitioned from Hiplife to a gospel ministry, has also spoken in previous interviews about his deep respect for Okyeame Kwame. Their careers followed different paths, but the mutual admiration has remained intact.
This clarification from Okyeame Kwame sheds light on the often misunderstood dynamics within the music scene, where fan rivalries are sometimes mistaken for actual disputes among artists. It also speaks to the maturity and enduring brotherhood between two legends who helped shape Ghana’s musical identity.
