Bawumia is now a victim of circumstance, which makes it hard for Ghanaians to vote for him as president – Dr. Emmanuel Marfo

Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, a member of the Bryan Acheampong campaign team, has stated that former vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia may not be the best choice to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 elections.
Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Dr. Marfo argued that Bawumia has become a “victim of circumstance” due to his association with the current administration’s challenges, making it difficult for the Ghanaian public to embrace him as a viable presidential candidate.
“Bawumia is now a victim of circumstance, which makes it hard for Ghanaians to vote for him as president,” Dr. Marfo stated. “Therefore, the NPP should strongly consider Bryan Acheampong as flagbearer.”
According to Dr. Marfo, while Bawumia is intelligent and capable, his proximity to the economic and governance issues under ex-President Akufo-Addo’s administration has significantly hurt his political appeal.
He noted that the frustrations of Ghanaians over inflation, youth unemployment, debt concerns, and general economic hardship have been unfairly but inevitably tied to the former vice President, who heads the Economic Management Team.
Dr. Marfo used the platform to pitch Bryan Acheampong as a fresh face capable of revitalizing the party’s chances in the 2028 elections. He described Acheampong as pragmatic, grassroots-oriented, and untainted by the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the current government.
