Dr Stephen Amoah Provides Scholarships For 165 Tertiary Students In Nhyiaeso.

Story By Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, Kumasi

Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr Stephen Amoah famously known as “Stica” has awarded 165 tertiary students in his constituency with scholarships.

The Nhyiaeso MP is using his Common Fund as well as personal donations to implement the educational gesture.

According to the lawmaker, the educational support is to ease the financial burden of higher education.

Amoah announced the support at a ceremony held at the State Experimental School on Friday (22 August).

Background:
Beneficiaries are drawn from universities including the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Education, Winneba, Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training, Garden City University College and the University of Ghana.

Rationale:
Dr Amoah told reporters the initiative was part of efforts to invest in human capital and ensure students were not forced to abandon their studies because of financial constraints.

“My main focus is on the Human Development Index, ensuring that we develop the human resource in the constituency. Once one has the ability, they can perform any task in this world to survive economically,” he said.

The MP stressed that the programme was open to all deserving students, regardless of political affiliation.

“The scholarship is not party-specific. We don’t look at faces, height or social status. We only ensure we have enough resources to support students in tertiary institutions,” he added.

The Ghana Education Service:
The support is part of a wider commitment by the MP to improve education and create opportunities for young people in his constituency.

A representative from the Kumasi unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES) praised the MP for this intervention.

“And of course this not the first time he has done this. His education agenda is dotted across the constituency and they are traceable”, the rep stated.

“And to our beneficiaries, the MP has done his part, complement it by keeping glued to your books and never disappoint your parents”.

Beneficiaries:
One of the beneficiaries, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to the MP and prayed for him to be given another mandate to continue leading the Nhyiaeso community.

“We are grateful for this intervention…And it is my hope that this will happen”.
