Ga North MCE Prioritises Sanitation, Warns Against Unsafe Structures Near Bridges

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga North, Akwetey Agbo, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving sanitation across the municipality while cautioning residents and business owners against unsafe structures near bridges and waterways.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview with Homebase TV at his office, Mr. Agbo expressed gratitude to the people of Ga North, the but President John Dramani Mahama, and the Regional Minister for their continuous support. He emphasised that sanitation remains his top priority, describing it as essential for healthy living.

“One of the key challenges in this municipality is sanitation. We have begun community engagements to encourage everyone to take part in keeping their surroundings clean. My team and I have already desilted major gutters in Ofankor, Safowaa Memorial, Afieman, and other areas to prevent flooding,” he said.

The MCE revealed that task forces have been deployed to ensure shop owners and businesses manage their waste properly. He also highlighted cleanup activities carried out at the Ofankor barrier underpass and surrounding gutters.

On unauthorised structures, Mr. Agbo disclosed that the Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO and the sanitation unit, has served notices to individuals who mounted containers close to bridges. He stressed that such activities pose flood risks and endanger lives.

“Very soon, we will remove all those containers. This is not about destroying livelihoods but about protecting lives and property. Anyone who wants to put up a container or temporary structure must seek the Assembly’s approval,” he cautioned.

The MCE called on residents to support the Assembly’s efforts, adding that sanitation and disaster prevention require collective responsibility.
