Foundation and groundworks of the National Cathedral project was 100% complete, erection stalled as politics creep in and donations stopped – Lawyer Charles Owusu

The legal representative for the National Cathedral project Lawyer Charles Owusu has revealed that the foundation and groundworks were fully completed, leaving only the erection of the superstructure. However, the project’s momentum flew off course as political interference grew, prompting a sharp decline in donations and casting doubt on the cathedral’s future.

According to Charles Owusu, counsel for the Board of Trustees, all extensive underground works were finalized, including what he characterized as “25 metres of concrete and foundational preparations” literal bedrock for the mission. What remains is simply “to lift the structure” and continue the visible build above ground.

Owusu speaking with KOD on Kessben TV blamed politicization for the abrupt freeze of progress. According to him, the National Cathedral had been depoliticized and championed as a unifying national project, but critics turned it into a “politically divisive symbol,” undermining donor confidence and leading to a sharp drop in public contributions.

Owusu underscored the legal status of the National Cathedral as a company limited by guarantee, separate from the state framework.
