State funeral for fallen 8 underway in Accra (LIVE)

The eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash in Sikaman-Brofroyedru, Adansi Akrofrom District, Ashanti Region, are being given a final farewell by Ghana.

Traditional elders, government representatives, security personnel, President John Dramani Mahama, and the families of the deceased will all attend the state funeral, which will take place in Accra’s Black Star Square.

Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, former Obuasi East parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah will all be buried at the Military Cemetery at Tse Addo following the interdenominational service.

The other two, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, were buried on August 10 in observance of Islamic customs.

Calls for immediate investment in Ghana’s military aircraft fleet were sparked by the deaths of eight officials in a helicopter crash while they were on official duty.

There will be strict security at the event today, and parts of Accra’s main roadways will be blocked off to allow for the burial procession.
