Severe burns made body bags unusable, That’s why we put the remains of the late 8 into cocoa sacks – CDS, Major General William Agyapong

Major General William Agyapong, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has provided an explanation for the use of cocoa sacks to transport the remains of the eight victims of the helicopter crash on August 6.
The way the deceased’s remains were transported in a cocoa sack has drawn strong criticism from the military.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 13, during a visit by Ghana Journalists Association executives, Major General Agyapong stated that the decision was required due to the victims’ bodies being badly burned, which rendered ordinary body bags inappropriate.
Although there were some body bags at the crash scene, he pointed out that they were not practicable to use because to the severe heat damage to the remains.
“It was in the thick forest, and it was getting late. We had the option of leaving the remains there until the following day, but we knew what would have happened to the bodies. So, the team decided to use the available materials to move them to higher ground.
As I speak, personnel on the ground are expanding the search daily because we do not yet know the full extent of the wreckage,” He said.
