The dollar has come down but the system is still hot, Someone bought Hausa Koko GHC50, for a family of 3 people – Kennedy Kankam

Kennedy Kankam, former Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, has raised critical concerns about Ghana’s recent economic deve Mulopments.
While the dollar-to‑cedi exchange rate has significantly eased, he warns that the broader economic system remains overheated, with everyday Ghanaians hardly benefiting from headline improvements.
Speaking on Kessben Maakye with Wofa Kfi Appiah Kennedy Kankam “The dollar has come down but the system is still hot. Someone said he can’t buy Awakye with Ghc10 now, Awakye is sold from GHC15 and someone also said he bought Hausa Koko GHC50, for a family of 3”
In the first half of 2025, the Ghanaian cedi enjoyed one of the highest year‑to‑date appreciations globally. By May, it had strengthened by approximately 20–42% against the USD, sliding from levels around GHS 17 back to approximately GHS 10–11
This recovery, fuelled by disciplined monetary and fiscal policy, strong gold export receipts, and growing international reserves, has helped bring inflation down from above 40% to the low 20s.
