I’m confident the new KATH CEO Dr Kwesi Baidoo, will achieve outstanding results, revamp the hospital, & strengthen ties with the staff – Jerry James Sukah (Papa Jay)

Jerry James Sukah, popularly known as Papa, has expressed firm confidence in the leadership of the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Kwesi Baidoo. According to Papa Jay, the appointment of Dr. Baidoo marks a turning point for one of Ghana’s most prominent referral hospitals, signaling hope for a revitalized institution with stronger internal cohesion and a renewed focus on excellence.
Dr. Kwesi Baidoo, a seasoned orthopedic surgeon, officially assumed office in May 2025 following the exit of Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah. Prof. Addai-Mensah, who led KATH through a period marked by both structural challenges and important milestones, stepped down after completing his term as CEO.
Papa Jay, a respected voice in Ghana’s healthcare advocacy and community development space, believes Dr. Baidoo is well-positioned to build on his predecessor’s legacy while implementing fresh strategies to reposition KATH as a center of excellence.
“I am confident that Dr. Kwesi Baidoo will achieve outstanding results,” Papa Jay stated. “His background as an orthopedic surgeon and his deep understanding of both patient care and institutional management gives him a unique edge. I believe he will revamp the hospital infrastructure, improve service delivery, and, most importantly, strengthen the relationship between hospital leadership and staff.”
Dr. Baidoo’s medical career spans over two decades, with a reputation for surgical precision, empathy, and mentorship. His appointment comes at a time when KATH is in need of both clinical innovation and stronger administrative cohesion. Many within the medical community and the public see his dual competence as a clinician and strategic thinker as key to driving the hospital into a new era of efficiency, transparency, and patient-centered care.
Papa Jay emphasized the importance of unity among hospital stakeholders to ensure Dr. Baidoo’s vision is realized. He called on the staff, management, and the wider community to give the new CEO their full support.
As Dr. Baidoo settles into his role, all eyes will be on how quickly and effectively he can implement needed reforms. With the backing of influential figures like Papa Jay and the goodwill of many within the medical fraternity, expectations are high, but so is the optimism.
