INCEDI 2025: Dr. Tony A. Bediako Calls for Decisive Shift to Digital Education

Dr. Tony A. Bediako, a senior ICT and management consultant, has urged policymakers, educators, and development stakeholders to adopt a bold approach to digital transformation in education. According to Dr. Bediako, digital transformation is the key to bridging the gap between hope and opportunity for the Global South.

The Need for Change
Dr. Bediako highlighted the slow pace of change in classroom models across Africa and other developing regions, contrasting it with the rapid technological advancements being made globally. He emphasized the need for education systems to not only keep pace but thrive in the age of digital transformation.

Harnessing Digital Technologies
The Fourth Industrial Revolution, or Digital Revolution, is transforming economies, human interaction, and the nature of learning. Dr. Bediako cited examples of successful digital innovations in finance, agriculture, and governance, such as mobile money in Ghana and Kenya, and Ghana’s fully digitized passport application system.

A Systemic Approach
Dr. Bediako stressed that digital transformation in education requires a systemic approach, involving the rethinking of processes, models, and functions across the entire educational ecosystem. This includes leveraging technology effectively, streamlining processes, adopting a data-driven culture, and placing the end-user, in this case, students, at the center of planning and implementation.

A Call to Action
Dr. Bediako urged the Global South to embrace digital transformation not as a distant aspiration but as an urgent, actionable agenda. “Digital transformation is the bridge between the hope of our young people and the opportunities they deserve. It is time to reimagine education, not just improve it,” he emphasized.
