
The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) as part of its effort to leverage Ghana to become digitally competitive and a leading ICT trade hub has launched its 2025 national ICT week celebration set to commerce from 25th to 29th August 2025 in Accra.
The week-long event is on the theme “Ghana as Africa’s Digital Trade Hub – Innovation, Policy and Partnership For The Future” with lineup of activities such as seminars, pannel discussions, documentary on digital trust for Africa trade, outdooring of the e-commerce Guide book, exhibition and startup pitch among others.
In attendance includes officials from the Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Bank of Ghana, AfCFTA, MTN, Airtel Tigo, Zee pay, Hub-tel, E-commerce Platforms, World Bank, GIZ, UNDP, Start-ups, Entrepreneurs, Academic and Think Tanks.
Speaking at the launch, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Agency, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor said government has a vision in the ICT space to scale up the country to become a lead digital trade hub in Africa and beyond.
“Government have adequately invested in broadband expansion, e-government platforms, national identification systems, cybersecurity, frameworks and youth-oriented technology programs,” he said.
According to him, government have shown commitment in digital governance and inclusivity adding that players in the digital space have developed key policies frameworks in digital economy for accelerated development, digital financial services, data protection Act as well as cybersecurity.
He commended tech hubs like MEST, Impact Hub Accra, Kumasi among others for producing startups that are making giant strides across the Africa continent, saying that governments programs like the One-Million Coders and Girls-in-ICT for empowering the youth in the ICT space are creating jobs.
“Government have put in place swift measures in partnering tech giants like Google, Microsoft and Huawei, local fintech and agritech innovations for more opportunities in the ICT industry” he added.
