No phone call or message is more important than your life, Stop using phones while in the kitchen – NPA cautions women

Obed Boakye, Head of Commercial Regulations at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has advised against the use of mobile phones while cooking in the kitchen, citing fire and safety risks.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr. Boakye said the practice, though common, is potentially dangerous and must be discouraged.
“We want to caution everyone, especially our women who are mostly in the kitchen, to stop using their phones while cooking, especially when using gas. It’s not safe,” he said during a live discussion on the station’s morning program.
He explained that while using mobile phones might seem harmless, they can serve as a source of distraction, and in rare cases, emit static charges or small electrical sparks, especially when receiving or making calls.
In environments where there may be accumulated gas due to leakage, even a small spark can trigger a deadly explosion.
While his caution applies to all, Mr. Boakye directed his message particularly to women, acknowledging that they are often the ones engaged in cooking and managing household chores.
He noted that many incidents reported to the NPA involved distractions caused by phone calls or social media usage while cooking.
