NIA Revitalizes Ghana Card Operations to Enhance Credibility and Accessibility

The National Identification Authority (NIA) is taking significant steps to enhance the credibility and accessibility of the Ghana Card, a crucial national identification document. In a media address on Monday August 4 2025, Mr. William Dallas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, outlined the authority’s plans to expand its operations and improve the registration process.
Expansion of NIA Operations
The NIA is set to open modern centers in four regions: Northern, Volta, Ashanti, and Eastern. This expansion aims to bring the Ghana Card registration process closer to the people, making it more convenient and accessible.
Online Application for Ghana Card
The NIA is working on a system that will allow Ghanaians to apply for the ECOWAS card, commonly known as the Ghana Card, online. A video tutorial will be available to guide applicants through the registration process, making it easier for people to obtain their Ghana Cards.
Registration for Non-Citizens
The NIA has also announced that non-citizens can apply for the Ghana Card through the required channels. This move is expected to facilitate the integration of non-citizens into the Ghanaian society and provide them with a secure form of identification.
Verification of Identities
The NIA is urging corporate bodies to verify the identities of cardholders before engaging in transactions. This measure is aimed at preventing identity fraud and ensuring the credibility of the Ghana Card.
Crackdown on Identity Fraud
The NIA has warned that investigations are underway to prosecute individuals who falsely vouch for foreigners to obtain the Ghana Card. This move is expected to deter people from engaging in identity fraud and ensure the integrity of the national identification system.
Commitment to Transparency and Accountability
The NIA has reiterated its commitment to resolving issues that arise and assuring that any officer found breaching the code of conduct, particularly by extorting large sums of money from citizens, will face prosecution.
Accessibility of Ghana Card
The NIA has reminded the public that the Ghana Card can be obtained at district offices and the Accra head office, with applicable fees. This move aims to make the Ghana Card more accessible to the public and reduce the time and cost associated with obtaining the document.
By revitalizing its operations and improving the registration process, the NIA is working to enhance the credibility and accessibility of the Ghana Card, a crucial national identification document.
