Certification of appointees by the NDC government must be investigated well, (GTEC) must act – Janet Nabla, PNP flagbearer

Janet Nabla, flagbearer of the People’s National Party (PNP), has called for a thorough investigation into the academic certifications of appointees under the NDC government.
Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye with KOD, she challenged the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to take a more active role in verifying and safeguarding the integrity of the country’s public appointments.
Janet Nabla’s comments come amid ongoing public debates about the authenticity of academic qualifications held by some political figures. Over the past few years, multiple revelations and suspicions surrounding fake degrees, honorary titles presented as earned credentials, and unaccredited institutions have sparked widespread public concern.
Nabla believes GTEC, the regulatory body responsible for overseeing tertiary institutions and the recognition of qualifications in Ghana, has a duty to act decisively, not just to protect Ghana’s governance structures, but also to restore public trust.
The PNP leader emphasized that a nation’s leadership must reflect the highest standards of integrity and qualification, and that no political affiliation should place any appointee above scrutiny.
Her call was not limited to the current administration but specifically addressed appointees under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, suggesting that a pattern of unchecked or suspicious certifications may have taken root.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), formed through the merger of the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE), has a clear mandate: to ensure that institutions and qualifications meet national and international standards.
However, Nabla expressed disappointment that GTEC has yet to publicly audit or review the qualifications of high-profile public officials, despite increasing demand from civil society and watchdog groups.
