William Ato Essien, the founder of the defunct Capital Bank is out of jail on bail granted by the Court of Appeal.

This comes after he filed an appeal challenging his conviction.

A three-member panel of the nation’s second-highest court decided today to award Essien GH¢10 million in bail with two sureties.

The court mandated that Essien report to the court’s registrar once a month and deposit his passport at the court registry.

In 2023, the Accra High Court sentenced Essien to 15 years in prison for stealing more over GH¢90 million in the Capital Bank scandal.
