Funeral of late Daddy Lumba must be held at Baba Yara Stadium & body to be buried in Mampong Nsuta – Callers on Kessben Drive time Show demand fitting farewell

As the nation continues to mourn the passing of legendary Ghanaian highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, fans across the country are calling for a funeral befitting his iconic status.

On the popular Kessben Drive Time Show hosted by Fante Quoo on Kessben FM, a groundswell of emotion and strong public opinion was heard as numerous callers passionately appealed for the final funeral rites to be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, with his burial taking place in his hometown, Mampong Nsuta.

Callers, most of whom described themselves as lifelong admirers of Daddy Lumba’s music and influence, said the Baba Yara Stadium is the only venue large enough to accommodate the thousands expected to pay their last respects. They likened the late artist to a national treasure, insisting that his contributions to Ghanaian music and culture warrant a state-level commemoration.

“Lumba is not just an ordinary musician. He’s a living legend in our hearts. His funeral should not be done in secret or in a small chapel. It must be done where all of Ghana can gather, and that place is Baba Yara Stadium,” one emotional caller stated.

In addition to demands for a grand funeral ceremony in Kumasi, callers also stressed the importance of burying the late musician in his roots, Mampong Nsuta, in the Ashanti Region. According to many, returning him to his ancestral home would be a fitting closure to a life that began in humble beginnings and ended with national and international acclaim.

“Mampong Nsuta gave Ghana Daddy Lumba. We must return him there, not just for tradition’s sake but to inspire the youth in that town that greatness can come from anywhere,” another caller added.

Though no official confirmation has been released by the family or management team regarding the funeral arrangements, the mood across the country is one of deep mourning. Tributes have been pouring in from musicians, politicians, and cultural figures who credit Daddy Lumba with transforming Ghanaian highlife and mentoring generations of artists.

Daddy Lumba, whose career spans over four decades, is widely regarded as one of the greatest Ghanaian musicians of all time. With hits like “Aben Wo Ha,” “Yentie Obiaa,” and “Theresa,” his music has touched generations and continues to resonate today. Known for his distinctive voice, lyrical genius, and charisma, Lumba carved a niche that few have been able to rival.

As public pressure mounts, all eyes are now on Daddy Lumba’s family, management, and the government to see how the funeral arrangements will unfold. Will they heed the people’s call for a state-level funeral at Baba Yara Stadium and a final resting place in Mampong Nsuta?
