Rev. Vincent Kankam ( Sofo Kankam ) cautions public against Mobilemoney fraudsters, Urges high user awareness

Reverend Vincent Kankam has issued a strong warning to the public about the rising wave of mobile money fraud in the country, emphasizing the urgent need for users to heighten their vigilance and awareness.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s Food For Thought on Monday, Sofo Kankam called on Ghanaians to be more alert and cautious when using mobile money platforms.

Mobile money services have become a critical part of daily life for many Ghanaians, providing convenient financial transactions across the country. However, the platform has also become a prime target for fraudsters who exploit unsuspecting users through fake calls, deceptive messages, and impersonation schemes.

Rev. Kankam expressed deep concern over the growing sophistication of these scams, saying, “These fraudsters are not slowing down. They are adapting, and it is up to us as users to stay ahead by being informed and alert.”

He stressed that while mobile money service providers continue to educate the public, many users still fall victim due to ignorance or carelessness. He encouraged users to double-check any mobile money requests or messages they receive, especially from unfamiliar numbers.

He emphasized the importance of what he called “user-serving awareness” the idea that users themselves must be active participants in their own protection. “Security is not just the duty of service providers. The user must be informed, alert, and careful.”

He called on telecom companies to intensify public education and make reporting fraud easier and more effective. “Fraudsters thrive in silence. The more we talk about it, the harder it becomes for them to operate.
