Hon. Nartey George Leads AI Training Programme for Ministers and Focal Persons

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George today led the opening of a three-day Ministerial AI Bootcamp aimed at building the capacity of Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State, and designated focal persons across the government to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into public service delivery.
Speaking at the session, the Minister underscored the urgent need for Ghana to embrace AI technologies to enhance governance, service efficiency, and national security, noting that “We must begin to use artificial intelligence in many of our embassies to analyse and determine the profile of individuals entering the country”.
The AI Bootcamp, organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), brings together top-level policymakers and technical representatives from all Ministries to co-develop AI-driven solutions tailored to their respective sectors.
These solutions, the Hon. Minister said will be institutionalised as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to promote accountability and monitor progress in AI adoption across government.
Hon. George emphasized that the initiative is not about turning policymakers into coders, but about equipping them with the understanding needed to guide AI-related policies and applications.
Leveraging on AI to address national issues, he said the Ministry of Health could adopt a health intelligence centre that uses AI to predict and monitor communicable diseases based on hospital data that would become their KPI from the Bootcamp.
He noted that the programme has the full backing of the President John Dramani Mahama who directed that AI be treated as a whole-of-government priority.
“The President was very clear that artificial intelligence deployment should not be a Ministry of Communication initiative alone—it must cut across all Ministries,” he said.
On his part, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah, who officially opened the training, announced that the AI solutions developed during the Bootcamp would be integrated into Ministerial KPIs.
By the end of the three-day programme on Sunday, he mentioned that participating Ministries were expected to develop practical AI use cases and implementation roadmaps, with coordination support from the Ministry and a technical monitoring by UNDP.
