President Mahama Promises University, Infrastructure Overhaul for Oti Region

President of the Republic of Ghana H.E John Dramani Mahama has outlined ambitious development plans, pledging significant investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

President Mahama made these comprehensive address today, Friday 25th July, 2025 to the Oti Region, during the “ Thank you Tour “ in Dambai.

“Oti region will receive its university within my tenure of office,” President Mahama declared, emphasizing the government’s commitment to educational development.

He confirmed that work has already begun with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to identify the most suitable location and model for the institution.

Highlighting infrastructure improvements, the President Mahama announced multiple road projects, stating, “The Eastern corridor road is a top priority under my administration.”

He specifically promised the completion of the Nkwanta-Kpasa-Oti Damanco road stretch and the construction of the Dumbai Bridge over Oti river this year.

On healthcare, the President Mahama addressed a critical gap, noting, “The Oti region remains one of the few regions without a proper Regional Hospital. I find this unacceptable.”

He revealed active engagements with stakeholders to establish a fully equipped regional hospital in Oti Region.

Water infrastructure also received significant attention. “We’ll replace the damaged pipes, reconstruct the water intake and treatment units,” the President said.

Referring to the Damanco Kpassa water system project estimated to cost 40 million cedis and benefit approximately 70,000 people.

The address underscored the government’s comprehensive approach to regional development, with the President emphasizing, “Agriculture is not a job of last resort. Agriculture is now a business of first choice.”
