Issuance of Ghana Passport is strictly to Ghanaians not Foreigners – Foreign Ministry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that Ghanaian passports are being issued to foreign nationals. In a statement released on July 24, 2025, the Ministry described the claims as “false and baseless”.
Robust Passport Issuance System
The Ministry emphasized that its passport issuance system is robust and secure, with rigorous scrutiny and verification processes in place to ensure that only genuine Ghanaian citizens are issued passports. The process includes.
Verification of Nationality: Applicants’ documents are thoroughly verified to confirm their Ghanaian nationality.
In-Person Vetting: Applicants undergo in-person vetting, where additional information is obtained to substantiate the details provided on the application form.
Warning Against Forged Documents
The Ministry also warned the public against presenting forged or fake documents for passport applications, stating that such actions are punishable by law under Sections 158, 159, 166, and 169 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
Commitment to Security Protocols
The Ministry assured the public that it is committed to maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s passports and will continue to invest in modern technology and staff training to advance security protocols.
Investigation and Prosecution
In the past, the Ministry has investigated allegations of passport issuance to foreigners and has taken action against individuals found to be involved in such activities. Those found guilty have been prosecuted and sanctioned accordingly.
