Kennedy Agyapong said worse things & was cited for contempt, but the law took its course, same applies to Kevin Taylor – Hon Akuoko Frimpong

Former Sekyere Central District Chief Executive (DCE), Akuko Frimpong, weighed in on the controversy surrounding U.S.-based Ghanaian broadcaster Kevin Taylor and his frequent criticisms of state institutions and officials after his arrest warrant was squashed by the Supreme Court yesterday.
Drawing parallels to an earlier high-profile case involving Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Frimpong emphasized the impartiality of the Ghanaian legal system.
“Kennedy Agyapong said worse things and was cited for contempt by the court when he insulted a judge, but it didn’t go anywhere because the laws were at work. The Kevin Taylors too, it’s the same law,” Hon Frimpong stated.
Kennedy Agyapong, a firebrand politician known for his outspoken nature, made headlines in 2020 when he verbally attacked a judge during a live broadcast. The outburst led to a contempt of court charge. Although the case stirred national debate about freedom of speech and respect for the judiciary, the legal process played out without political interference. Agyapong appeared before the court and later apologized.
Frimpong referenced this case to stress that Ghana’s legal institutions acted independently, regardless of the status or political affiliation of the individual involved.
Hon. Frimpong’s remarks suggest that if Kevin Taylor’s statements violate any laws, the proper legal channels should be used, just as they were in the Agyapong case.
