Dr Ramzi Inusah hits hard on Government to publish audit details after scrapping of fuel allowance

In a live broadcast on Kessben Maakye Morning Show earlier today, Dr. Ramzi Inusah, National Communications Team member of the Movement for Change, called for full transparency following President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to eliminate fuel allowances for all political appointees.

Speaking during the discussion with host Mr. Frimpong Ziega (Nana Frimpong Ziega) and ablely supported by Mr. Kwadwo Preko Dankwah (K.P.D), Dr. Inusah emphasized that an open breakdown of projected cost savings is essential. “If an audit is conducted, the findings must be shared with the public,” he urged, explaining that clarity on real savings is critical to retain public trust.

President Mahama’s directive, issued on July 15, cancels all fuel provisions previously allotted to political appointees—including ministers, CEOs, and presidential staff—as part of an austerity-driven Reset Agenda . The move, which also cut satellite-TV subscriptions and reduced ministerial portfolios, is expected to save “millions of cedis annually,” with funds diverted to education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

However, Members of Parliament, such as Sammy Awuku, have challenged the scope and sincerity of the policy—asking whether it covers all categories of appointees and demanding detailed reporting on savings . Conversely, pro-government voices, including NDC MP Samuel Atta Mills, have praised the move as a sign of sacrifice and fiscal discipline . Economist Larkwor Baah described it as a prudent financial decision , while UPP leader Akwasi Addai Odike acknowledged its merit but dismissed its impact as “a drop in the ocean” compared to broader elite perks.

On Kessben FM / TV, Dr. Inusah stressed that this is not simply a populist gesture but a test of the government’s commitment to accountability. He called on Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Communications, to publish the audit breakdown, including departmental fuel usage, total savings to date, and reallocation figures.

“President scrapping of fuel payment allowances to all political appointees is done to ensure transparency, government should give us a full breakdown. If an audit is conducted, the findings must be shared with the public.”
This is from the words of Dr. Ramzi Inusah, National Communications team, Movement for change.
