“Mahama’s fuel‑allowance cancellation just a ‘crowcrow the jon’ until Parliament removes percentage from appointees’ salaries” – Kennedy Kankam

Kennedy Kankam, former NPP MP for Nyiayeso, has dismissed President John Dramani Mahama’s recent decision to scrap fuel allowances for political appointees, labeling it a superficial gesture until Parliament legislates a permanent cut from appointees’ salaries.
Speaking on Kessben FM Maakye, Hon Kankam acknowledged the July 15 announcement by the Presidency but cautioned Ghanaians against celebrating prematurely.
He said the directive remains “merely symbolic” unless followed by parliamentary action to formally adjust appointees’ income.
On July 15, President Mahama, via a statement by Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced the immediate cancellation of fuel allowances for all political appointees, part of a broader austerity push under the government’s “Reset Agenda”
He stressed that without passing a law or legislative amendment, the directive remains an executive order vulnerable to reversal, or political interference.
