She described it as a critical move to reduce government wastage and redirect funds to priority sectors.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Midday News, the government official stressed that Ghanaians should welcome the measure as part of broader efforts to promote fiscal responsibility.
“I thought you would be happy about it. The day I posted that I’m willing to pay one Ghana cedi as my contribution to dealing with the energy sector Levy, many of you took me on to say that, ‘ah, but you government pays your fuel for you.’ So citizens ought to be happy that his excellency is holding, as he promised in his manifesto, that he will hold all appointees to the strictest standards of ethical conduct and also productive use of our resources,” she said on July 15.
The directive, announced earlier today by the Presidency, eliminates fuel benefits for political officeholders as part of a series of cost-cutting initiatives.
This follows earlier steps such as reducing ministerial appointments and canceling satellite TV subscriptions for government offices.
Madam Muslim noted that these actions align with public demands for accountability.
The policy also precedes the implementation of a GHS1.00 fuel levy for power generation, further underscoring the administration’s focus on reallocating resources.
Shamima Muslim insists the latest move must be met with public support and vigilance to ensure sustained accountability.
