IGP must be elected through voting – NPP man, Nana Odeneho Oppong tells Gov’t

Nana Odeneho Oppong, a former Director of Transport at the Jubilee House under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, called for reforming the process through which Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) is appointed.
According to him, the position of the IGP should no longer be a presidential appointment but should instead be filled through a democratic voting process.
Speaking on Kessben FM, Nana Odeneho Oppong argued that the current mode of appointing IGPs by the President compromises the neutrality and independence of the Ghana Police Service.
The former government official emphasized that the police are meant to serve all Ghanaians, not just those aligned with the ruling party.
Nana Odeneho Oppong served as Director of Transport at the Jubilee House during the tenure of the NPP government. Known for his outspoken nature and advocacy for good governance, he has remained an active voice in national conversations even after his service at the seat of government.
