Brainest Educare Calls for Abacus Integration in Government Schools

The Chief Executive Officer of Brainest Educare Limited, Mrs. Hilda Karroum, has called on the Ministry of Education to incorporate abacus learning into the curriculum of government schools. This appeal was made during the 2025 World Access Brainest National Abacus Competition in Accra, which saw over 2,000 students from across the country participate.

According to Mrs. Karroum, introducing abacus education in government schools would significantly enhance pupils’ numerical skills, allowing them to visualize and manipulate numbers more effectively. She emphasized that abacus learning has proven to improve cognitive skills, mental calculation abilities, and problem-solving skills in children.

The adoption of abacus education in government schools would provide students with a more comprehensive and engaging Mathematics education, better preparing them for future academic and professional pursuits. Mrs. Karroum highlighted the success of abacus education in private schools, where many pupils have demonstrated a strong interest in the tool, developing a stronger foundation in Mathematics and building their confidence in the subject.

Mrs. Karroum appealed to the Ministry of Education to partner with Brainest Educare Limited to introduce abacus education in government schools. This initiative would ensure that students and teachers in government schools are not left behind in evolving teaching and learning methods to build the cognitive skills of pupils.

The benefits of abacus education were echoed by Ms. Ann-Marie Ayele Akotey, a student of International Community School in Accra and a champion in the National Abacus Competition. She attributed her confidence in Mathematics to the competition and thanked her teachers and parents for their training and mentorship.
