Minister’s Support Boosts Team’s Morale: Samuel Nartey George’s visit and words of encouragement inspire students to triumph over Brazil in third-place playoff

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has inspired twelve students from My Redeemer School in Sowutuom to a third-place finish at the just-ended 2025 AI for Good Robotics Competition held from July 8 to 11 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The students, who represented Ghana at the global event organised by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), showcased brilliance and resilience throughout the competition. However, a robot malfunction in the semifinal round led to a heartbreaking loss, leaving the team visibly downcast.
In a timely show of support, the Ningo-Prampram MP, Sam George, visited the team shortly after his bilateral engagements in Geneva. His encouraging words lifted the spirits of the students and inspired them to give their best in the third-place playoff against Brazil.
The young Ghanaians bounced back with remarkable determination and triumphed over Brazil to claim the bronze position—an outcome that drew admiration across Ghana’s tech space.
“They had just lost the semifinal due to a robot malfunction and were downhearted. I tried to raise their spirits, and these gallant children went in for the third-place game against Brazil and triumphed. I am super proud of what these wonderful children and their coaches have achieved. The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations would explore support for their robotics programme when we get back to Accra,” Sam George wrote on his Facebook page.
The team’s impressive performance was made possible through the combined efforts of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL), MakersPlace, and the Diaspora African Forum (DAF), who provided critical training and logistical support.
