Ablekuma Elections: Dismissal of NPP’s injunction by the court was political – Lawyer Kwabena Nketiah Antwi

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, sought an interim injunction to halt the rerun, contending that a previous High Court order had mandated collating outstanding stations,of which only three remained unscanned, and that a rerun without a tied vote was without legal basis.

In the aftermath, NPP lawyers and officials criticized the EC’s rerun conduct as politically motivated and in contempt of court. General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong called the move “unlawful, shocking, and disingenuous” .

Lawyer Kwabena Nketiah Antwi speaking on Kessben FM, the court’s dismissal was not rooted in constitutional interpretation but rather in political expediencies:

Lawyer Antwi emphasized that legal arguments grounded in Regulation 42 (permitting reruns only upon tied outcomes) were dismissed without due judicial engagement.

He described the EC’s insistence on a rerun in the absence of vote equality as a political maneuver designed to influence outcome rather than ensure electoral justice.
