Dollar decline started before NDC took over, & it will have just been the same as now even if NPP was in power today – Collins Owusu Amankwah

Former Manhyia North MP Collins Owusu Amankwah, speaking on Kessben FM, stated that the depreciation of the US dollar versus the Ghana cedi began while the NPP administration was still in power and even before the transition to the NDC government.
He emphasized that this downward trend in the dollar’s value was already underway and would likely have continued to its present level regardless of which party was in office.
Owusu Amankwah noted, “The dollar was already depreciating versus the cedi when the NPP was handing over to NDC,” suggesting that the weakening of the dollar against the local currency had started before the new government took over.
He asserted that even if the NPP had remained in power, the dollar would have reached its current level due to global market forces, rather than specific policies by the incoming NDC administration.
According to him, “even if it was NPP was in government now it would be where it is today” implying the currency movement was more a product of macroeconomic forces than partisan governance.
