C/R: 66 Years of Shaping Futures: Swedru School of Business Holds Anniversary Celebration

Swedru School of Business, located in Agona West Municipality of the Central Region, recently celebrated its 66th anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day. The event brought together alumni, students, and faculty to commemorate the school’s milestone and recognize outstanding achievements.

A Call for Support

In his address, Headmaster Mr. Justice Kojo Frimpong highlighted the school’s challenges, including an infrastructural deficit that has been ongoing for six years. Despite the increased population, the abandoned projects remain unfinished, and the school is seeking government support to complete them. “We are crying out for support from the government to help complete these abandoned projects for the school,” Mr. Frimpong emphasized.

Advice and Encouragement

Mr. Abdul Rahman Amoadu, Managing Director of Newmont Corporation in Africa and Canada, and an alumnus of Swedru School of Business, urged students to stay focused on their education. “You should be mindful of your time and your books as well,” he advised. Mr. Amoadu expressed gratitude to the school authority for its efforts in bringing the school to its current state and promised that the 2002 year group would support the school with infrastructure development.

Prioritizing Math and Science

The 2002 alumni group also encouraged female students to prioritize math and science subjects, emphasizing their importance for future success. They commended Mr. Abdul Rahman for his achievements and current position as Managing Director of Newmont Corporation in Africa and Canada ¹.

A Brief History of Swedru School of Business

Swedru School of Business was founded in 1959 by Joseph Essel as a speed writing secretariat. The school was later taken over by the government in 1967 and relocated to its current site in 1975. Today, the school offers various programs, including Agriculture, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, and General Arts. With a university acceptance rate of 21%, Swedru School of Business has established itself as a reputable institution in Ghana’s education sector.
