Suspension of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo: Dr. Agyarko Oduro urges Ghanaians to respect our laws

Dr. Agyarko Oduro expressed deep concern about the growing disregard for the rule of law in Ghana. His comments came in response to the ongoing controversy surrounding the suspension of Chief Justice Araba Torkorno.

Speaking on Amansan Tie on Kessben FM, Dr. Oduro lamented what he described as a “culture of lawlessness” that has steadily permeated Ghanaian society. “In this country, people don’t respect the laws,” he said. “We must begin to understand that laws exist to maintain order and justice. Without respect for the law, we have no moral or civic compass.”

Dr. Oduro’s remarks were triggered by public reaction to the suspension of Chief Justice Araba Torkorno, a move that has generated significant debate across political and social circles. While details surrounding the suspension remain under legal review, Dr. Oduro cautioned against emotional or partisan interpretations of the issue.

The lecturer emphasized that the erosion of legal respect threatens national development and undermines public trust in institutions. “When people see others disregarding the law with impunity, it sends the wrong message. It tells the youth that power, not principle, determines justice. That’s a dangerous path.”

Dr. Oduro called on both citizens and leaders to recommit to upholding Ghana’s constitutional values. He encouraged media houses, civil society organizations, and traditional leaders to promote legal education and civic responsibility among the populace.
