GREAT NEWS: Private Legal Practitioner Nana Yamoah Ponko takes up Antoa SHS cutlass haircut incident

Renowned private legal practitioner Nana Yamoah Ponko, has stepped in to pursue justice in a disturbing incident at Antoa Senior High School, where a teacher allegedly used a cutlass to shave a student’s hair. The incident, which sparked public outrage, has drawn the attention of human rights advocates, educators, and legal experts nationwide.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Nana Yamoah Ponko expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as a clear case of abuse and a violation of the student’s rights. He confirmed that he has officially taken up the matter and will ensure the student receives justice.

According to reports, the teacher, whose name has not yet been officially disclosed, allegedly used the sharp edge of a cutlass to forcibly shave the student’s head as punishment for keeping unapproved hairstyle, an act many consider barbaric and highly dangerous.

Nana Yamoah Ponko stressed that this goes beyond school disciplinary measures and borders on criminal conduct and child endangerment.

The legal practitioner has indicated that he is working closely with the student’s family and will be engaging with the Ghana Education Service (GES), Child Rights International, and relevant authorities to ensure appropriate disciplinary and legal action is taken against the teacher involved.

He also called on the Ministry of Education to review disciplinary protocols across senior high schools to prevent such extreme and potentially harmful actions from recurring.

The incident has reignited debate on corporal punishment and excessive discipline in Ghanaian schools, with many calling for a national conversation on alternative disciplinary methods that preserve student dignity and safety.

As Nana Yamoah Ponko prepares to pursue the case through the appropriate legal channels, public interest in the outcome remains high. For now, all eyes are on Antoa SHS and the authorities’ response to this alarming episode.
