UHAS Alumnus James Armo Wins Prestigious Gates Foundation Research Fellowship

Mr. James Armo, a distinguished 2023 graduate of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) School of Allied Health Sciences, has been awarded a prestigious research fellowship funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Mr. Armo is the only Ghanaian and one of just six individuals globally selected for this highly competitive fellowship.
He will be undertaking advanced research training at the Centre for Neuroimaging Sciences, within the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London.
His research focuses on the application of advanced neuroimaging techniques to improve the early diagnosis and prognosis of first-episode psychosis — a critical area in mental health that holds great promise for transforming patient care outcomes globally.
“This fellowship is a major milestone not only for Mr. Armo but also for UHAS and Ghana at large,” said UHAS Alumni President, Mr. Gabriel Agbanyo. “It demonstrates the outstanding calibre of our alumni and the global relevance of the education and training offered at UHAS.”
Mr. Armo’s selection for this fellowship highlights his commitment to advancing clinical neuroscience and mental health research, particularly in low-resource settings. His work will contribute significantly to global efforts in improving mental health diagnostics and treatment.
