GHS issues a caution against individuals spreading misinformation about the vaccines

The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Safety Officer at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Daniel Adu Asomaning, has urged the public, especially opinion leaders and influencers to stop discouraging people from taking vaccines, warning that such actions harm public health efforts.

According to him, after monitoring the rise in illnesses across the country, the data shows that vaccination plays an important role in fighting many of these diseases.

He added that some influential individuals continue to discourage Ghanaians from taking vaccines, claiming they may have harmful effects. However, he stressed that these claims are misleading.

“It is very important for taking the vaccine ; it helps to combat various diseases and is beneficial for Ghanaians, I strongly advises everyone to take the vaccines.” He emphasized.

Speaking to Kessben Tv after a training session organized by the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health for Queen Mothers at the Crystal Palm Hotel, Asomaning said vaccination is helping health workers reduce health complications and prevent avoidable deaths.

“ It is unfair for some people to discourage vaccination among Ghanaians and urged them to rather support and promote the process.” He said.

“Misinforming the public about vaccines can lead to severe consequences and stresses the need for respect and responsible behavior, stated that The Ghana Health Service assures that all vaccines brought into the country are thoroughly tested and safe, urging the public to trust the vaccination program.” He stressed.

The President of the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health, Bright Amissah Nyarko, also stated that some people are afraid to take vaccines because of misinformation suggesting that the vaccines come from unknown foreign sources and may not be safe.

He added that the purpose of training Queen Mothers is to help them understand how vaccines are produced so they can educate people in their communities.

Amissah further noted that, due to widespread false information about vaccines, the coalition has trained over 100 NGOs and 1,000 community volunteers across 100 districts in the country to promote immunization and vaccination.
