I won’t mind if you are investigated for misappropriating funds – President Mahama warns MMDCEs

Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) have been forewarned by President John Dramani Mahama that he will not protect them from inquiries if they are found to have embezzled public funds.
The President states that MMDCEs are responsible for making sure the District Assemblies Common Fund is used wisely and transparently while also ensuring that the public benefits.
Mr. Mahama warned the MMDCEs during a training session on Wednesday, June 18, that the Auditor General Department and anti-corruption organizations would be closely observing their work.
“The Auditor-General and other anti-corruption institutions will be watching your work, and as I’ve said
previously, if any of these institutions starts investigating you, you don’t expect me to interfere on your behalf,” President Mahama said
He emphasized that they now directly oversee 80% of the Common Fund, which must be spent exclusively for the good of the populace and not for their personal interests.
“We expect you to ensure the judicious and transparent use of these resources. The funds must be utilised in the interest of our people, and not for our creature comforts,” he stated.
