Ghana Academic Professional Forum launched to champion evidence-based reforms
A new think tank committed to promoting inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economic development has officially been launched in Accra. The Ghana Academic Professional Forum (GAP-F), an independent and non-partisan body, was unveiled at a brief but solemn ceremony held at the Ghana International Press Centre on Wednesday, June, 2025.
The Forum is set to play a pivotal role in Ghana’s policy landscape, focusing on rigorous economic policy analysis, strategic advocacy, and constructive engagement with stakeholders at all levels of governance and society.
Speaking during the launch of the GAP-F, Dr. Akwetey Henry Matey, a Lecturer at the Department of Information Technology in the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Studies at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), outlined the mission and objectives of the Forum.
According to him, GAP-F is not merely an association of professionals but a forward-thinking platform designed to foster collaboration, advance intellectual discourse, and contribute significantly to national and regional development through academic and professional engagement.
“It is with great honour and a deep sense of purpose that we officially launch the Ghana Academic Professional Forum today,” Dr. Matey declared. “This is a mission-driven initiative with a clear purpose: to influence national and regional policy discourse through high-impact research, strategic advocacy, and dialogue, particularly aimed at addressing structural challenges, promoting economic justice, and advancing socioeconomic transformation.”
He emphasized that GAP-F seeks to become a trusted voice in the national conversation on economic and developmental policy by ensuring that reforms and proposals are grounded in sound research and objective analysis.
The Forum’s mission, as stated, is “to serve as an independent, non-partisan think tank that rigorously analyzes economic policies, advocates for evidence-based reforms, and engages stakeholders at all levels to promote inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economic development.”
Dr. Matey further described the establishment of the Forum as a “call to action” to scholars, educators, researchers, and professionals who are passionate about reshaping national development through knowledge, accountability, and innovation.
“Today marks a significant milestone – the beginning of a vibrant community of academic professionals committed to impactful dialogue and leadership in national development,” he said. “We envision GAP-F as a crucible for thought leadership and academic rigor that can bridge the gap between research and policy.”
