Breaking!! I’ll Contest NPP flag-bearer elections—Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum Confirms

Ghana’s famous former Minister for Education and incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the people of Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has stated his decision to contest the upcoming flag-bearer elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement to your authoritative Daily Banner Newspaper on Wednesday, Dr Adutwum said he had arrived at the decision after a deep search and having conducted wide range of consultations from a cross section of people in the country.
He noted that the intent of his is borne out of a desire to serve his people with integrity, vision and results.
Dr Adutwum, who was recently recognised by the USA 🇺🇸 Congress as champion of Education, pledged to use his talents and skills as well as the blueprint he has in mind to develop the country when endorsed by the rank and file of the NPP as flag-bearer for the 2028 general election.
We present in full the formal communication from Dr Adutwum spelling out his intent to the Daily Banner Newspaper.
Statement:
Dear Patriots,
Fellow Countrymen,
With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party.
This is a response to a lifelong call, a call to serve my party and my country with integrity, vision, and results.
It is also a response to the many voices from the party faithful, religious leaders, youth groups, and everyday citizens across the length and breadth of our country—who believe that now is the time for a new kind of leadership.
My journey has been defined by service — not just to causes, but to people. As Vice Chairman of the NPP in California, I led efforts that mobilized resources and support for our party’s victories in Ghana.
Far from home, we stood firm in loyalty and contributed meaningfully to Ghana’s democratic progress.
But that was only the beginning. When the then-candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, extended a call for me to return — not just as a party executive, but as a visionary in education, I accepted without hesitation.
I left behind the comfort of California, where I had founded thriving STEM-focused high schools in Los Angeles, and came home to help reshape Ghana’s education system.
We are standing at a critical juncture in our national journey. Ghana needs leadership that is not only visionary but also deeply grounded in evidence, compassion, and discipline.
Leadership that understands that transforming a nation begins with transforming minds.
I believe in a Ghana where:
– Every child, regardless of background, receives quality education;
– All youth have access to opportunity and meaningful work;
– Every citizen, from farmer to entrepreneur, has a stake in our shared future;
– And we would wage war against poverty and win.
Declaration:
This declaration is, above all, a call to action — to every Ghanaian who dares to believe that our country can be better, stronger, and more united.
I am offering myself as a servant leader with a mindset of socio-economic transformation of our nation.
We need to rewrite the nation’s transformation architecture to meet the needs of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Let us rise together — with discipline, data, and dignity — to build the Ghana we deserve.
I am ready to serve. I am ready to lead. I am ready to transform.
May God bless our great party. May God bless our homeland, Ghana.
Thank you.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
