Let’s thank God that COVID-19 didn’t occur under President Mahama, or else more Ghanaians would have died – NPP Communicator, Perez

Nana Agyei Perez, a communicator for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), made a bold and controversial statement on Kessben FM while speaking during a panel discussion on governance and crisis management.
Perez remarked that Ghanaians should thank God that COVID-19 didn’t occur during the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama, suggesting that the outcome would have been catastrophic.
“Let’s be honest and thank God that COVID-19 didn’t hit this country under Mahama,” Perez said. “If it had, more Ghanaians would have died and the nation would have capsized. The systems would not have survived under his leadership.”
Perez stood by his remarks, arguing that the Akufo-Addo-led administration showed superior leadership, infrastructure readiness, and international diplomacy during the pandemic.
While many agree that the NPP government managed COVID-19 with considerable effort and resources, others argue that politicizing such events erodes the sense of collective responsibility needed in times of crisis.
