Prof. Mrs Angela Ofori-Atta, wife of the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has assured the public that her husband remains committed to returning to Ghana to face investigations once he receives medical clearance.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Prof. Ofori-Atta dismissed suggestions that her husband was evading accountability, insisting that “Ghana is home” and that he would return when his doctors permitted.
“I don’t think there is any other home but Ghana, no, Ghana is home,” she stated. “So why are we holding back on the investigation? Why would he [the OSP] not give the video?”
She reiterated that Mr Ofori-Atta has never shied away from accountability and is open to participating in ongoing investigations virtually until he is fit to appear in person.
“He has never not been accountable. This is not Ken Ofori-Atta, who runs away from accountability,” she said.
Her comments follow intensified public scrutiny after an Interpol red notice was reportedly issued, alongside an ongoing investigation by Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor into alleged corruption during Mr Ofori-Atta’s tenure.
The former Finance Minister, who has recently undergone treatment for prostate cancer, is said to be recovering under medical supervision. His family maintains that the delay in returning to Ghana is purely health-related and not an attempt to dodge the legal process.
“When his doctors give him the go-ahead, of course, at the appropriate time, he will come,” Prof Ofori-Atta added. “Ghana is home.”
