Ghana-EU Partnership to Drive Economic Growth and Security – Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has highlighted the strong partnership between Ghana and the European Union, emphasizing mutual respect, shared values, and collective commitment to prosperity and security. The 2025 Ghana-EU Partnership Dialogue brought together key stakeholders to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore new avenues for collaboration.

Ghana and the EU are working together to drive inclusive economic growth, create sustainable jobs, and enhance business opportunities. The Minister emphasized the importance of simplifying procedures for Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters scholarships and expanding collaborations in vocational education, such as the Suame Technical Institute’s participation in the EU-funded SHINE project.

The EU’s recent donation of security equipment was commended, and the Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and security in Ghana and the West African sub-region. Strengthening institutional capacity and regional security cooperation with EU support will enable Ghana to effectively confront threats from the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea.

The dialogue also emphasized the need for humane, orderly, and mutually beneficial frameworks for migration. Ghana and the EU are working together to harness migration as a driver of socio-economic progress, while safeguarding the rights of nationals abroad and upholding human dignity.

The partnership drives initiatives promoting renewable energy, conservation, and responsible natural resource management. Ghana needs EU support to unlock climate and green funds, as well as funding from the carbon market, to enhance growth and environmental sustainability.

The Minister expressed hope that the dialogue would result in tangible benefits for both parties and contribute to making the world safer and more stable. Ghana remains committed to working closely with the EU in the spirit of partnership, mutual respect, and solidarity. With the EU being Ghana’s largest multilateral development trade partner, the dialogue sets the tone for collective efforts to strengthen Ghana-EU relations.
