EU Ambassador Highlights Strong Ghana-EU Partnership

The European Union Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Irchad Razaaly, has reaffirmed the strong partnership between Ghana and the EU, emphasizing mutual respect, shared values, and collective commitment to prosperity and security. Speaking at the 2025 Ghana-EU Partnership Dialogue, Ambassador Razaaly highlighted the numerous high-level visits between Ghana and the EU, demonstrating the commitment to deepening the relationship.
The Ghana-EU partnership is rooted in shared priorities, including Ghana’s economic transformation, regional leadership, and global collaboration. The EU has invested in key projects such as the Kaleo solar power plant, providing electricity to 50,000 households, and the retrofitting of the Kpong Dam, a €62 million investment. These projects are part of the Global Gateway initiative, offering the “Best of Team Europe” to key partners.
The EU recognizes Ghana’s leadership role in Africa, particularly in regional economic integration as hosts of the AfCFTA Secretariat, which the EU supports with EUR 1.1 billion. Ghana’s progress in producing life-saving vaccines for the region is also notable, with the EU investing nearly €55 million to break the cycle of African dependency on vaccines.
Ambassador Razaaly commended Ghana’s peaceful transition of power and commitment to democratic principles. The EU and Ghana share a steadfast commitment to effective multilateralism and rules-based international order, evident in their cooperation on global issues such as climate change, Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and the Middle East crisis.
The Ambassador expressed the EU’s willingness to support Ghana in addressing challenges such as improving the business climate and countering illegal gold mining. He also commended the Affirmative Action Act as a sound legal foundation to advance women’s inclusion and gender equity.
The EU-Ghana partnership is built on a foundation of shared values, common objectives, and mutual respect. Together, both parties can face the challenges of today and build a brighter future for generations to come. With new administrations in both Ghana and Europe, the partnership is poised to deepen further, with more regular structured dialogue on topics of shared interest.
