BREAKING NEWS: Nurses and Midwives call off nationwide strike, resume work tomorrow -details

Following days of disputes with their employers that caused significant disruptions to healthcare services, striking nurses and midwives have formally canceled their nationwide industrial action, effective immediately.
Following extensive discussions with government authorities and a passionate appeal for compassion from a range of stakeholders, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) President, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, made the announcement today, Friday, June 13.
The engagement held with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health and other interested parties on Thursday, 12th June 2025, was very fruitful, and has paved the way for an amicable resolution of the impasse with our employer, concerning the implementation of our collective bargaining agreement.”
“In view of point one above, the GRNMA’s industrial action initiated on 2nd June 2025, is hereby suspended pending the outcome of a follow-up meeting scheduled for 26th June 2025.” The GNRMA said in a news conference on Friday.
On Saturday, June 14th, the GRNMA gave the order for the more than 120,000 nurses to return to work. She promised that until the collective agreement was completely implemented, the nurses and midwives would not take a break.
They stated, their demands or concerns should be addressed promptly and honestly because they are qualified and experienced nurses and midwives.
