I took a break from music because of childbirth and their upbringing – Legendary Akua Serwaa Bonsu

Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Akua Serwaa Bonsu has shared insights into her personal life and career during an interview on Kessben TV’s Music Plus. The conversation with Mr Bonez delved into her hiatus from music, her family life, and her return to the gospel music scene.
Akua Serwaa Bonsu revealed that her decision to step back from her musical career was primarily influenced by the demands of childbirth and the responsibilities of raising her children. She emphasized the importance of nurturing her family during their formative years, stating that her focus shifted to ensuring their well-being and upbringing. Now, with five grown-up children, she reflects on the balance she sought between her passion for music and her commitment to family life.
After a significant hiatus, Akua Serwaa Bonsu made a triumphant return to the gospel music industry in 2020 with the release of the single “Hu Yen Mmobo,” produced by Ghanaian producer Kweku Mensah. This track marked the beginning of her comeback, leading to the release of her fifth studio album, Adanse Pa, in 2023. The album features songs like “Me Dan Wo,” which translates to “I lean on You,” showcasing her enduring talent and devotion to her faith.
With a career spanning over three decades, Akua Serwaa Bonsu has been a significant figure in Ghana’s gospel music scene. Her hits like “Nsamerane,” “Noah Nna No,” and “Ebeye Yie” have inspired and uplifted many. Now based in Duisburg, Germany, she continues to minister through her music, touching lives both in Ghana and the diaspora.
