Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah Begins Work As Acting Executive Director Of CEA

Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, newly appointed Acting Executive Director of the Complementary Education Agency (CEA), officially assumed office today following his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama. Mr. Ashiamah met with senior and junior staff at the CEA headquarters, where he received a warm welcome and used the occasion to outline his vision for the agency’s future.
In his first address, the former Member of Parliament emphasized the importance of unity, teamwork, and compassion in delivering the agency’s ambitious mandate. “I am very happy to join you with my experience. I am here so that we solve problems together. Before we can do that, we need teamwork, unity, love, and respect. Only then can we achieve our goals and make sure we succeed,” Ashiamah stated.
He urged staff to focus on the core mission of the CEA—helping Ghanaians, particularly those in underserved communities, to access basic literacy and lifelong learning opportunities. “Let’s do our best to help our brothers who cannot read and write. We have a difficult task ahead, but I know with determination we will achieve our objective and succeed—and achieve President Mahama’s goal under the Ministry of Education.”
Restructured Agency, Renewed Purpose
Mr. Ashiamah’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the agency, which has recently undergone restructuring following the passage of the Complementary Education Agency Act, 2020 (Act 1055). The Act replaced the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) with the CEA to reflect a broader and more strategic focus.
The agency is now tasked with promoting inclusive, lifelong learning, especially for marginalized populations, through functional literacy programs and alternative education pathways.
In his new role, Ashiamah is expected to provide strong leadership and strategic direction as the agency works to integrate complementary education into Ghana’s national development agenda.
With his first day setting a collaborative and mission-driven tone, expectations are high for Mr. Ashiamah to transform the CEA into a catalyst for literacy and lifelong learning across the country.
