NDC Spain Acting Secretary Demands Justice for Corrupt Ex-Government Officials

Hanson Dartey, Acting Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Spain Branch, has called for the swift prosecution of former government officials accused of embezzling state funds. In an exclusive interview with this reporter, he emphasized that those responsible for economic mismanagement and corruption must be held accountable to restore public trust in government.
The call comes amid a series of ongoing investigations into high-profile corruption cases linked to the previous administration. State agencies such as the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) have initiated probes into allegations of misappropriation of public funds, the awarding of questionable contracts, and abuse of office. Public dissatisfaction with economic conditions and demands for justice have grown steadily, especially as more details emerge from forensic audits and parliamentary reviews.
Addressing criticisms from the NPP about the nature of the investigations, Dartey stated that if the NPP had even the slightest concern for the well-being of the nation — or any real commitment to accountability — they would praise the NDC government for the bold steps it is taking to protect the national purse.
“These are not mere political errors; they are crimes against the Republic,” Dartey said. “Ghana was systematically looted, and those responsible must be held accountable before the law. We cannot pretend this didn’t happen. Justice must be done.”
He cited specific individuals, including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, former Minister of State Charles Adu Boahen, and former GIIF Board Chair Prof. Ameyaw Akumfi, accusing them of overseeing or enabling serious financial misconduct.
He further warned the public against giving a platform to individuals facing corruption allegations. “We shouldn’t entertain or listen to individuals who actively contributed to the economic harm this country has suffered,” he declared. “Any attempt to shield them or frame this process as a witch-hunt is dishonest and dangerous. If you believe in accountability, then now is the time to prove it — by letting the institutions work.”
“We must stop romanticising failure and criminality. The people of Ghana deserve better. They deserve leadership that protects, not pillages,” he added.
Asked what the NDC abroad expects from the current government going forward, Dartey emphasized that both the local and diaspora branches of the party stand firmly behind ongoing efforts to restore fiscal discipline and legal integrity. He rejected claims of political witch-hunting, describing the party’s position as a moral and national obligation. As evidence that accountability is finally taking root, he pointed to the recent detention of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, by EOCO.
As anti-corruption investigations continue, the call for justice from within and beyond Ghana’s borders appears to be growing louder. Whether the legal processes will result in convictions remains to be seen, but for many, the demand is clear: let justice be done — and let no one be above the law.
