The new energy sector levy is spot on by the NDC to fix Ghana very well – Hon. Akuoko Frimpong,

Former Sekyere Central Municipal Chief Executive and National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, Hon. Akuoko Frimpong, has proposed a bold and focused approach to reviving Ghana’s economy.
Speaking on Kessben, he advocated for the introduction of a 1 cedi Energy Sector Levy, arguing that it could play a transformative role in stabilizing and growing the nation’s economy if managed properly.
According to the former MCE, the energy sector sits at the heart of Ghana’s economic challenges, and a direct, citizen-supported financial intervention is the realistic way forward.
Hon. Akuoko Frimpong explained that the energy sector continues to bleed resources, with mounting debts owed to power producers and fuel suppliers. These challenges not only affect power supply and industrial productivity but also have ripple effects on jobs, inflation, and investor confidence.
He emphasized that the levy should be ring-fenced, meaning the funds must be protected from political mismanagement and used solely for clearing energy sector debts, investing in power infrastructure, and stabilizing electricity tariffs.
Hon Akuoko Frimpong acknowledged that similar levies in the past have faced criticism due to lack of transparency and poor implementation. However, he stressed that the key difference this time must be accountability and results.
