Mahama Appoints Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah as Acting Executive Director of Complementary Education Agency

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed former Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Daniel Kwesi Ashiamah, as the Acting Executive Director of the Complementary Education Agency (CEA).

Mr. Ashiamah’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment as the newly established CEA takes over from the now-defunct Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) under the Ministry of Education.

The agency has been restructured to deliver a broader and more strategic mandate aimed at promoting inclusive, lifelong learning opportunities for all Ghanaians, particularly underserved and marginalized groups.

Established under the Complementary Education Agency Act, 2020 (Act 1055), the CEA replaces the NFED’s traditional focus on adult literacy with a more comprehensive mission. As a body corporate, the agency is now tasked with ensuring the effective provision, administration, and promotion of quality Complementary Education (CE) across the country.

In his new role, Mr. Ashiamah is expected to bring leadership, strategic clarity, and innovation to the agency. His mandate includes expanding access to complementary education, creating robust educational frameworks, and integrating functional literacy and lifelong learning into national development plans.

Reacting to his appointment on Original TV, Mr. Ashiamah expressed his gratitude to the President and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the opportunity.

“I would like to use this opportunity to thank H.E. John Dramani Mahama for choosing me out of a multitude of comrades to occupy the office of Acting Executive Director of the Complementary Education Agency (CEA),” he said.

“I pray for those who are yet to be called that God should kindle H.E. to remember them at the right time. Thanks to all members of the NDC. I am sincerely grateful.”

Mr. Ashiamah, who served as MP from 2013 to 2021, is well-known for his passionate advocacy on education and social development issues during his tenure in Parliament.

His appointment has been welcomed by stakeholders in the education sector, many of whom view his leadership as timely and essential to repositioning the CEA as a key driver of inclusive national development.

As Ghana continues to prioritize education reform, Mr. Ashiamah’s leadership at the CEA is expected to play a significant role in transforming the lives of thousands through literacy, skill-building, and lifelong learning.
